#1 Bird Feed: Black Sunflower Seed
Sunflower Seed
If you are new to bird feeding or only have one feeder, we highly recommend you feed Black Sunflower Seed. This is our most popular bird feed by far.
It attracts a wide variety of songbirds: Finches, Chickadees, Jays, Nuthatches, Cardinals, Tufted Titmice and many more. Even Woodpeckers regularly visit my sunflower feeder.
You do NOT need a mix of seed to attract a variety of birds! I have found 90% of mixes have cheap filler seed (like millet & Milo) that birds will not eat. The dollar you save will not make up for less birds.
Attracting Songbirds
Songbird Feed
In addition to Sunflower Seed, we offer Wild Delight Fruit And Berry. This has nuts, fruits, and berries to attract an even wider range of birds, but no fillers like millet! Instead, it has great things like vitamins and minerals added to keep your birds healthy!
Songbird Mixes
In addition to Sunflower Seed, we offer 2 great mixes:
First is Sizzle N' Heat. This mix has pepper in it that repels Squirrels but that birds cannot taste.
Second is Wild Delight Fruit And Berry. This has nuts, fruits, and berries to attract an even wider range of birds, but no fillers like millet! Instead, it has great things like vitamins and minerals added to keep your birds healthy!
Attracting Finches
Finch Feed
Nyjer Seed is Finches favorite feed. It will attract Gold Finches, Purple Finches and House Finches. Nyjer seed is high in fat and protein. It is a fine seed that is heat treated to prevent spilled seed from growing.
Attracting Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds are a family of their own. They suck the nectar from flowers. We have nectar feeders, as well as lots of flowers that will attract them. Hummingbird usually come about May and stay until it gets cold.
Repelling Squirrels
Squirrel Proof Mixes
Squirrels will come for the food too. We have
Sizzle N' Heat bird feed. This mix has pepper in it that repels Squirrels but that birds cannot taste.
We also carry a line of squirrel proof feeder. The weight of a squirrel closes the feed ports to keep them from wasting it.
