Amethyst Falls is a native American Wisteria, known for being less aggressive and invasive than other Wisterias. It produces fragrant purple flowers in the late spring. These 4-6″ racemes of flowers sweep gracefully downward. Amethyst Falls is a woody, twining vine requiring a sturdy support structure such as a trellis or an arbor. It looks excellent planted in a container growing up a lattice at the side of your porch. Amethyst Falls Wisteria needs to be pruned in late winter to shape the vine and then a light pruning after its finished flowering in the late spring.
Wisteria are known for their fragrant clusters of spring blooms. They thrive in moist, rich, well-drained soil. They are very drought tolerant, after they are established. To produce the most flowers, Wisteria should have at least 6 hours of sun. Provide them with a sturdy trellis, wire, or fence for climbing. Wisteria should be pruned in late spring after they are finished flowering and again in late winter to shape the vine.
