Dr. Ruppel’s flowers appear in late spring and again in the early fall. It requires at least 6 hours of full sun to provide you with its best flowers. It definitely thrives with having some afternoon shade. Dr. Ruppel Clematis should be pruned in late winter or early spring before new growth appears.

Clematis Perennial

Clematis are widely known as the “queen of climbers”. They climb trellises, arbors, pergolas, and fences. They thrive in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. Clematis prefer having their roots cool and shaded, so using mulch or stone around the base is excellent. It should be pruned in late winter before new growth appears. Clematis should also have a light pruning after it flowers in the spring.
