Exceptionally large sunshine yellow flowers nearly cover the Mesa Yellow Blanket Flower with a “blanket” of color all Summer. These large, cheery flowers do not fade in the summer’s heat. Butterflies adore these blooms. Blanket Flower is heat tolerant and very adaptable to dry conditions, but does need well-drained soil.
Blanket Flower (Gaillardia) is a native perennial plant that grows wild in the prairies of Western US. It gets its name from the blanket of flowers that cover it all summer. Performs best in moist, well-drained soil. It can also grow in poor soils, heat, and humidity. Removing spent flowers will encourage re-blooming. Blanket flower tends to be shorter lived, but reseeds easily.
