Jewel Black Raspberry is prized for glossy, jet black berries with intensely, sweet flavor. These black berries are popular for eating, baking, and making jams. It produces its berries in July. Jewel is self-pollinating, so you only need to plant one bush to get a harvest. When the new canes reach about 3 feet, it is time to prune them back. Immediately after harvest its time to prune again. The canes that have just finished fruiting should be cut to the ground. Be sure to let the green canes taller for next year’s crop. Plant Jewel Black Raspberry for those sweet berries!
Raspberry Plants produce their berries in July. They love rich, organic, slightly acidic soil that is well-drained. Resilient and cold-hardy, they thrive in lots of sun. Be sure to give Raspberries some extra water during their harvest period. This will help the berries to size up. Raspberry plants need to be pruned twice. When the new canes are 3 feet tall, prune them back to about 18″ tall. The second time is after they are finished fruiting, prune those old canes to the ground.
